Our Story
Mayfair's local, Smith and Whistle is so named thanks to the legendary comic stories of Detective Inspector Smith, and his nemesis, the infamous socialite scoundrel, Mr. William Whistle.
Although on opposite sides of the law, an occasional truce would be called in order to trade information that might protect or profit the people of London, to whom both gentlemen were deeply loyal. These clandestine meetings would invariably take place at the bar of The Park Lane Hotel, where Smith favoured Cask Ales and Scotch (straight up) and Whistle would order his trademark cocktail - a Martini with a twist. Both gentlemen liked their drinks strong and serious, which is why we pour 35ml as standard.
Smith & Whistle serves modern food inspired by the classics made from the finest seasonal ingredients that have been specially sourced by our chefs from a range of regions in the British Isles. Our dishes are paired with draught and bottled beers sourced from British artisan brewers as well as an in-house range of expertly crafted cocktails that are updated seasonally. Smith & Whistle is a proud supporter of emerging English wineries.
